Small Business Owners,
We are back after a summer hiatus.
Thank you for following our blog page for insightful links and information for small business owners. You can also visit our Branner Consulting LinkedIn page. We have discontinued the Facebook page. As the President of Branner Consulting, LLC, and as a professor who researches small businesses in the United States, I am keenly aware of the important role small businesses play in our economy. A blog post will continue to be posted monthly, with some exceptions, and we will continue to share links to articles that provide insight or offer advice to small business owners.
Here are a few facts about small businesses in the United States according to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and its Office of Advocacy.
- The SBA defines a small business as an independent business with less than 500 employees. The SBA also has industry-level definitions at the following link: https://www.sba.gov/document/support-table-size-standards
- As of December 2021, the SBA stated that there were over 32 million small businesses in the United States making up 99% of all firms.
- The SBA states that between 1995 and 2020, small businesses created 12.7 million new jobs as compared to the 7.9 million created by large businesses.
